Advancing the way legal professionals serve and reach clients through automation.
About Gavel: legal AI contract review and document automation for lawyers
Gavel is a legal technology company helping lawyers work smarter and serve clients more efficiently with precedent-based AI contract review in Word and legal document automation software.
We build products for transactional attorneys, law firms, and legal teams who want to spend less time on repetitive drafting and review and more time on high‑value legal work.
Our mission
Make access to the law universal by advancing how legal professionals serve and reach clients. We build technology that empowers lawyers to work more efficiently, automate intelligently, and deliver higher-quality service at scale, without compromising accuracy or control.
What we do
Gavel delivers two complementary products that serve distinct parts of the legal workflow:
Gavel Exec is precedent‑based AI contract review and drafting tool that operates directly inside Microsoft Word. Gavel Exec helps lawyers redline, analyze, and draft commercial contracts with contextual guidance based on legal norms and playbooks.
Gavel Workflows is a legal document automation platform that turns client intake and templates into structured workflows. Gavel Workflows automates the generation of legal documents, from simple forms to complex packets, up to 90 % faster than manual drafting.
Both products can be used independently or together to support the full lifecycle of legal work. Over 90% of legal services will eventually be delivered online. Lawyers should be a central part of this shift.
Our core values that guide how we build products for attorneys and legal teams.
Operate from excellence
Own the path forward
Get real things done
Zealously advocate
Perpetually seek better
Why lawyers choose Gavel
Gavel is built for legal context, not generic output. Our products are designed with legal professionals in mind, not general‑purpose technology.
Gavel handles real legal workflows. From playbook‑driven review to conditional logic document generation, we support practical legal work.
Gavel works where lawyers work. Gavel Exec plugs into Microsoft Word; Gavel Workflows runs in the browser with seamless integrations.
Gavel is trusted by law firms of all sizes. Law firms and legal teams use Gavel to scale their work, increase accuracy, and improve client outcomes.
Our story and leadership
Gavel was created by a lawyer to solve a real-world problem: too much time on repetitive legal tasks and not enough on high-value work. The first version automated contract drafting and legal document workflows: saving hours in the first week. That became Gavel Workflows, now used to automate legal documents end to end. In 2025, Gavel launched Gavel Exec, an AI contract review and drafting tool built for transactional lawyers, powered by firm-specific playbooks and precedent.
“Lawyers shouldn’t have to choose between meaningful work and getting it all done. Gavel makes both possible.”

Love the simplicity of setup and the complexity of opportunities.

Gavel is infinitely powerful, but also super easy to use. It can handle nested conditional logic and complex calculations. But what makes it stand out are the client-facing features.
Erin L., Managing Attorney at HelloDivorce
I've yet to have an automation task Gavel wasn't prepared to handle.
